Our formal sit-at-the-table homeschool year starts October 1. This month I've been doing test runs with the kids through various lessons of programs I plan for them to use.
Most years I do this so I can make accurate lesson schedules, knowing I need to be, for example, with the eight-year-old for twenty minutes for grammar, or that the seventh grader will only take fifteen minutes to do a day's geography lesson independently. I usually make a guess, then do a trial, timing and adjusting as necessary. This year I am doing it because, with both grown-ups in the house in college, we have to meticulously schedule every thing or we'll never get anything done.
I judged everything pretty accurately with my first guess this year, except math. The good news is, all three kids really connect with the math textbook series I switched us to. I thought they'd hate it. The bad news is, for at least two of those kids, connecting with it means they would like to do nothing but math all day. Math. All. Day. SAXON math all day.
Why is it always feast or famine around here?
If only I could find a laundry detergent they really love...
